Janelle BarclayAlex Amirov

Alex Amirov is borned in Russia and raised in Israel, Alex began her dance training in ballet and music when she was five. After seeing, and falling in love with, a ballroom dance show at age eleven, Alex spent over six years studying, performing and competing with one of the biggest ballroom dance companies in Israel. Alex moved to the United States at age eighteen, and started searching for a ballroom dance troop to join. She was invited to a salsa class by a friend and was immediately drawn to the rhythmic vibe and passion of salsa. Alex has been learning, teaching and performing salsa ever since. Through her energetic and engaging style of teaching, Alex brings New York on 2” salsa dancing to her students, evoking in them the passion and the excitement that she discovered in salsa. 

Beata BorsyAlex Amirov 

Recently, Alex spent a month in an ashram, where she surrounded herself with the spirituality and positive energy of a yogic environment, learning the philosophy and the path of yoga. Alex became a certified Hatha 1 yoga instructor, and now fulfils her joy in reaching out to people through yoga and dance.




Anna CarbonellAnna Carbonell, Guest Teacher

Anna is a multi-faceted free spirit who cannot have too much of life. She immerses herself in different activities from Hawaiian dancing to fancying desserts to playing tennis to teaching yoga and even to working for an investment banking firm and prime brokerage company as the IT Supervisor. When she was little, she thought that she would grow up to be a comedian or an actress. She was deviated from her dream and completed a B.A. in Psychology at Queens College . After college, she pursued her dream in the entertainment industry and went as far as landing national commercials such as Dove Body Wash, AT&T and the Travel Channel. Anna has also appeared in day-time soap operas, independent films, and performed in musicals regionally. She has been seen in Cosmopolitan, All You Magazines, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, Nokia, Toys R Us and Babies R Us ads. Then, her path turned to yoga and after several years of devoted practice, she decided to acquire her teacher certification last year. Anna wants to share her deep love for yoga to everyone so the best way for her is to commence teaching. With deep gratitude, she thanks Dance Central New York, Inc. for giving her the opportunity to share her devotion to yoga. Namaste and Aloha.

Ankit ChristieAnkit Christie

Ankit Christie completed an intensive course in yogic studies from Gujarat Vidyapeeth which was founded by Mahatma Gandhi. He was certified from Kaivalyadhama in India which was established in 1924. It is one of the only yoga institutions that is recognized by the Ministry of Health in India as a legitimate college of yoga. Ankit has over twelve years of diverse experience with yoga and meditation. He teaches classical and traditional yoga and offers physiological explanations for various yogic practices. He also teaches yoga at college.  


Victoria CrispoVictoria Crispo

Victoria has been studying belly dance (also known as Danse Orientale, Raqs Sharki, and Middle Eastern Dance) since 1999, utilizing the art form to embody a wide range of emotions. Accessible to students of all shapes, sizes, and ages, this ancient dance has been integral in improving body image and celebrating femininity. Through this dance, students learn muscle isolation, rhythm, shimmies, proper spine alignment, and abdominal strength. Victoria has a B.S. in Business Administration and a concentration in marketing, as well as an M.B.A in Marketing. In addition to dance, she works as a career counselor, assisting college students and recent graduates in their professional development and the transition into  “real” world of work. She has performed in various venues throughout NY and NJ, such as Cleopatra’s, the Lafayette Grill, and the Nile, as well as the Harmony Street Fair 2006, held at Snug Harbor Cultural Center. She was seen on the theatrical stage in November 2006 as the belly dancer in The Arabian Nights at The Circle Players’ Theatre.  Victoria provides instruction to beginner students in a fun and nurturing style and promotes a sense of empowerment, relaxation, and emotive expression in class.          


Marianna GorodtskyMarianna Gorodtsky 

Marianna Gorodetsky is currently a student at Pace University, pursuing a master's degree in Accounting. She was professionally trained in Latin Ballroom Dancing for 7 years by world renowned dancers, Eugene Katsevman and Maria Manusova. One of her biggest accomplishments was winning Ohio Star Ball 2004 in the Rising Stars division. Summer of 2008, She won the title of Miss New York East Coast USA and since winning she has been doing appearances all over New York City, one of which included Good Morning America. She represented the wonderful state of New York at the East Coast USA National Pageant in August where she placed 2nd runner up. One of the biggest privileges that she has, is reporting for Transit News on channel 25 weekly. She takes yoga on a weekly basis, and  try to incorporate that into her style of teaching. She takes technique very seriously when it comes to teaching dance, and  believe that everyone can dance, if they have the proper technique. She is grateful for everything she has, and  believe that success comes to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

Carla FloresCecilia Flores 

Cecilia Flores received her formal training at Alvin Ailey American Dance Center. She is originally from Sweden where she danced and performed for many years before moving to New York City in 1994. She has studied and trained with many well known artists and dance professionals such as Ana Marie Forsythe, Milton Myers, Jacqueline Buglisi, Denise Jefferson, Celia Marino, Lynn Glauber, Kelvin Rotardier, Earl Mosley, Max Stone, Lynn Simonson and Obediah Wright, to name a few. Cecilia graduated from the Ailey School with a Certificate of Dance and has danced in several concerts, and performed works by many well known artists as well as her own choreography. Some of her credits include: Former member of Alvin Ailey's Student Performance Group, A Winter Explosion (Alvin Ailey), QPTV, Westside Dance Project, Seraphim Dance Theatre, The Yosub Project, P-Funk Dance Company and The Ed Lover TV Show at Ed Sullivan Theater. She has also danced for Wella (with Glenn D. Packard and Brian Thomas) and she was a featured dancer in AOKI's CLOTHING commercial in Japan, choreograph by Michelle Assaf. Cecilia has been teaching the Lester Horton Technique (Ailey School Syllabus), Contemporary-Jazz and Ballet on Staten Island since 2005. She completed the Lester Horton Pedagogy with Ana Marie Forsythe at the Ailey School in 2009. Cecilia is the Director and organizer of the annual dance showcase, Staten Island Modern - Where Dance is Art, and she is also the Founder and Artistic Director of Floorwork Dance Company.

Michelle GlazarovMichelle Glazarov 

Michelle is currently a dancesport competitor and a United States representative to the world. In 2005, Michelle has won the prestigious title of United States Champion which gave her an opportunity to dance in Slovenia at the World Championships. Her extraordinary talent allowed her to perform on two seasons of "Dancing With The Stars" and countless celebrity fund raisers all over the United States. After her appearance on "Dancing With The Star", Steve Wynn, CEO of Wynn Enterprises invited Michelle and a selected few to perform at his benefit held in Wynn Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, as well as Sotheby's Auction House in Manhattan, New York whose guest list included Donald Trump, Beyonce' and Roberto Cavalli. Michelle does not take any of her success for granted and takes a lot of pride in passing along all her knowledge to her younger students and any other willing participants. Her classes consist of various styles and levels; from competitors to social dancers and beginners to champion!

Hanna HerbertsonHanna Herbertson, Guest Teacher

Hanna was born in South Korea, at the age of ten months she was adopted to Sweden. She grew up on an island in the Baltic sea called Gotland and she discovered her passion for dance. It has from then brought her to many different places around the world. Hanna has been teaching since 1998. She has done numerous stage performances and also danced in music videos and commercials both in Europe and North America. Hanna has performed with companies, Angel Feliciano's Hit Movement, Culture Shock NYC, Dance 2XS NYC and worked with choreographers like Kelly Peters, and Derrell Bullock. Besides choreographing hip hop, she has also created her own version of dancehall which she calls "Dancehall Fusion". She fuses different styles such as Jamican dancehall/reggae, ragga, Latin, African, oriental and Caribbean dances. Hanna wants her students to find their faiya, let loose and step outside their comfort zone.

Ivan RiveraBoris Leokumovich 

Boris Leokumovich began his dance career at the age of 11 in a small dance studio in Brooklyn where he quickly began to compete in Dancesport competitions. At age 14, he made a guest appearance on morning TV with Robin Givens. With his former partner, Boris performed at many venues including a gig as back-up dancer at a KTU concert. In 2002, Boris placed in the top 24 (out of 400 entries) at the most prestigious and largest Dancesport competition in the world, the British Open in Blackpool, England. That same year, Boris placed third in the Crystal Palace Open and sixth in the Imperial Open, both held in London, England. In 2004, Boris appeared in the Off-Broadway show, “Never Stop Dreaming,” as a principal dancer. Shortly thereafter, Boris decided to take a hiatus from his competitive career and moved to San Francisco, CA. With his busy competitive schedule temporarily put aside, Boris concentrated on his education and focused on other styles of dance such as Modern and Hip-Hop. It didn’t take long for Boris to realize that his true passion lay in Competitive Ballroom dance. A year later, Boris moved back to New York to pick up where he left off, and once again pursue his dance career. He has made numerous appearances on the hit show “Dancing With the Stars,” where he met his current dance partner and wife. He has performed at countless events for entrepreneur Steve Wynn, such as the opening of his new hotel in Macau, China. Boris has danced, trained, and taught with Victor Kanevsky at Kaiser Dance Academy in Brooklyn, NY; Maksim Chmerkovskiy at Dance With Me Corp. Studios in New Jersey, Metronome Dance Studio in San Francisco, CA; and Stepping Out in New York city. Boris, who is passionate about teaching, is highly trained in and teaches many styles of dance including International Latin, Salsa/Mambo, Social American; and is knowledgeable in Standard and Smooth styles. Dance Central New York is thrilled to welcome Boris to its pantheon of dedicated artists and dance professionals.

Anne MatematicoAnne Matematico

  1. Anne graduated from the University of the Arts with a BFA in dance. For the past 16 years, she has enjoyed both performing and teaching the art of dance to almost every age range. Anne has performed regionally and nationally in shows such as "The King and I", "42nd Street" and for numerous industrials, commercials and concerts. The list includes Amena cellphone (Spain), Total Payments, Prudential Insurance, Johnson and Johnson, Bette Midler, Kool and the Gang and many Polynesian dance troupes. She has appeared on almost every major television network and performs and teaches regularly in the tri-state area with organizations such as the Leadership Program and the Educational Alliance. She is also a co-founder of "Aloha Hula NYC" and part-restaurateur. Anne is grateful to be living what she loves with Dance Central New York, Inc.

Eleanor MooreEleanor Moore

Eleanor Moore was born in Austin, TX. Her artistic background includes study and performance in dance, music, film, and theater, and visual exhibitions. She has attended the Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, MI, the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, and the Juilliard School, in New York City. Her professional experience has included The New Roots Dance Ensemble, The Catalyst Club, and most recently Misnomer Dance Theatre. She has performed at Lincoln Center, the Cowell Theatre in San Francisco, and at the American Dance Festival in Durham, NC just to name a few. Ms. Moore has been teaching dance for about three years. She has served as a teaching assistant at Ballet Tech's Lower School, a demonstrator/counselor at the Juilliard School Summer Intensive, worked with students in Buckingham, PA at the Encorps Theatre School, and also teaches at the Bronx House, a nonprofit performing arts program. The bulk of Ms. Moore's training lies in classical ballet. She has studied and performed with the Houston Ballet, North Carolina School for the Arts, and Lines Ballet School, where she appeared in an ad for their Summer Intensive. She has studied rhythm tap and notation under Acia Gray, as well as jazz, hip-hop, flamenco, and various modern dance techniques. Ms. Moore's choreography has been performed at the Juilliard School, Alice Tully Hall, and Williamsburg Art Nexus here in New York. Her work has also been shown at the ADF Festival, Interlochen Arts Academy, and The Black Box Theatre in Austin, TX. Her passion for teaching is heavily fueled by the curiosity of young people. It seems that not so long ago, she was in their place, constantly discovering the pleasures of movement.

Naike NegrettiNaike "Nay" Negretti 

Naike, an Italian native, moved to New York City two years ago, She started performing at age seven and continues to teach and choreograph television and theatre throughout Europe. Since her New York City move, Ms Negretti has been dancing and choreographing for the company, DANCE2XS and many local artists. She is currently teaching workshops all over the United States and Europe, She can be seen performing for Decadance Theatre, one of the most popular hip hop female dance companies in the world. 



Robert RobinsonRobert Robinson, Guest Teacher

Robert is a choreographer and instructor of ballet and modern dance and served as faculty in various programs throughout US. He was trained at the School of Hartford Ballet and a graduated of The Juilliard School in NYC in 2005.  He had performed works by Dwight Rhoden, Lar Lubovitch and Nacho Duato, and others. His work is strongly rooted in aesthetics of classical ballet. However, it is inspired by elements of street dance, martial arts, the modern technique of Martha Graham and the Neo-classicism exemplified by George Balanchine. Robert had toured and performed extensively in NYC and internationally with The Pascal Rioult Dance Theatre. He is currently the resident choreographer for the Ditch Productions Multimedia Performing Art Collective. Robert's choreography has been featured in educational and professional endeavors by students and companies throughout the United States and abroad. Robert is interested in the development of dance for film and endless opportunity to see and show human gesture in unconventional way. 

Maureen DiGennaroIrina Syatkina 

Irina has been an acrobatics and gymnastics coach for over 25 years. She is originally from Moscow, Russia where she began her professional career.  She has taught and coached at all age levels for over eighteen years in Moscow.  She holds two degrees in Physical Education and a National Safety Certification from USA Gymnastics. She is currently a rhythmic gymnastics coach at Lido Sports School for kids up to 12 years old. Her gymnastics team competes regularly on both national and international levels. She now resides in New York with her husband and two kids.


Natalya TaytsNatalya Tayts, Guest Teacher 

Natalya Tayts is a competitive Ballroom dancer with extensive performance experience throughout the United States. She has trained with some of the world's finest coaches including, Vibeke Toft, Anna Bezikova, Dimitry Timokhin, Eugene Katsevman, Maria Manusova and Giampiero Giannico. Some of her winnings include being the Miami US Open International Latin under 21 semi-finalist, Philly Festival silver medalist, Yankee Classic Open Amateur runner-up and the Nationals 2006 Ten-Dance semi-finalist.




Gina Valerio

Gina Valerio

Gina graduated from The College of Staten Island with a Bachelor's Degree in the Arts with a concentration in education. She started her dancing career at the age of three at Miss Donna's Dance Studio. Gina went on to dance with Mrs. Rosemary's, Dance Expo USA, Moore Catholic High School Performing Arts and Starmarker Dance Studio. She has performed in many shows and concerts throught Moore Catholic High School where she was lucky enough to perform in Walt Disney World at Magic Kingdom. Gina also perform in variety shows at Holy Child Church as well. After graduating high school, Gina went on teach at Starmarker Dance Studio for seven years where she led her company classes to several awards and high honors, as well as performing in benefits throughout Staten Island. Gina also choreographed dances at Moore Catholic High School, St. John's University and Holy Child Church. Gina is very happy to be living her dream with Dance Central New York, Inc.

Teresa ValerioTeresa Valerio

Teresa is currently in her first year at The College of Staten Island studying education. She attended Moore Catholic High School and was a student of the Performing Arts, with a concentration in dance. Teresa had the honor of performing in Walt Disney Land in California with the Moore Players in 2005 and was in several shows and dance concerts while attending Moore Catholic. Teresa has been dancing for 16 years, studying at Mrs. Rosemary’s, Dance Expo USA and Starmaker Dance Studio. She is excited about her new teaching venture at Dance Central New York, Inc and can not wait to apply her knowledge to her future students. Teresa is also Gina’s younger sister and loves the idea of a family business atmosphere.

Ray Vega

Ray Vega 

Ray has been teaching Salsa Dancing for 12 years in New York City. He remains a dance student under the tutelage of Eddie Torres, known as "the Salsa king". He believes that Eddie Torres has given him "the edge over many other dance instructors out there". Mr. Vega is known to be very patient, accommodating and fun dance instructor who can break down complex dance patterns and steps in such a way that even the most rhythmic challenged individual can grasp the basic concepts of dance. He finds a way to communicate the minutest complexities of dance and at the same time, he makes you laugh. Anyone with two left feet is encouraged by Ray.

Nadezda Vlasova

Nadezda Vlasova, Guest Teacher 

Nadezda Vlasova has been a competitive Sport Ball Dancer for 12 years in her native country, Russia. She teaches Latin and European Ball Dance to all ages and all levels: Samba, Chile Cha Cha, Rumba, Jive, and Paso Doble. As an International Competitor, she placed third in rank, along with her partner, in the Saint-Petersburg Latin Program 2005 and has consistently achieved high results in many competitions. She is known to be an energetic and highly qualified Sport Ball Dance instructor who successfully prepares young dancers for Sport Ball Dance competitions. Miss. Vlasova's students speak of her as an intense, passionate dancer and teacher. Her class is well structured and she gives precise explanation of every movement. She is also a student at Saint-Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance.


Jane WongJane Wong 

Jane graduated from University of London with dance, she is a modern dancer with solid ballet training.  Brought up in Hong Kong, her other credits include performing in the works of Amanda Miller of Ballet Freiberg (Germany), Frauke Requardt of the Featherstonehaughs (Scotland) and Regina Opera Company in New York.  Ms. Wong has also choreographed for modern dance and opera companies throughout the United Kingdom and abroad.  She has recently received grants from the Salzburg International Ballet Academy in Austria, the White Mountain Summer Festival and the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company.
